TJG: Hi Nicholas. Thank you for your time, and congratulations on your recent tournament win this past weekend at Papago Golf Course, home of the ASU Devils Golf Team. Shooting -11 (66, 67) from 7,200 yards is impressive! How does it feel to pick up the win?
Nicholas: Feels really good to get a win! I haven’t won in a while, so it’s definitely great to be back on top—especially in one of the biggest tournaments in Arizona.

TJG: You went -8 on the par 5s throughout the tournament. Was that a key part of your strategy?
Nicholas: Absolutely. Par 5s are the scoring holes, and it’s a must to take advantage of them. I’m definitely glad I did!
TJG: What were your thoughts on the stronger winds both days?
Nicholas: Yeah, the wind was definitely a factor. It made some holes play a lot tougher, especially into the wind. But I grew up in Texas, so I learned how to control my ball flight, which definitely helped.
TJG: Several players mentioned struggling with the greens. What was your experience?
Nicholas: Yeah, the greens at Papago are tricky. They’re very grain-dependent, so you really have to read the grain and trust your feel.
