Epic Golf Match Comes Down to the 18th Hole and Raises $5,500 for Charity!
The highly anticipated 1v1 golf charity match between NFL Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher (Chicago Bears) and World #20 Junior Golfer Maverick Midthun (14 yrs old) took place on February 11, 2025, at Seville Golf and Country Club—and it did not disappoint! The thrilling match came down to the final hole, leaving spectators on the edge.
Did the expertise of celebrity caddy Gerry Carry push Maverick over the top? The answer will be revealed in the official video, currently being edited and set to be released in 3-4 weeks on multiple social media platforms.
Beyond the competition, the real winner of the day was charity, with over $5,500 raised to support local lower-income junior golfers.
A Day to Remember
“Today was a win-win for everyone involved,” said Adam Abolafia of Today’s Junior Golfer. “The fans who showed up on a weekday to watch The Match witnessed an incredible event filled with great golf and plenty of friendly trash talk. Pictures were taken, autographs were signed, equipment was dropped off, and most importantly, young golfers in need will now have more opportunities to play the game they love.”
The excitement started early, with both players warming up side by side on the range. Urlacher wasted no time firing the first shot—verbally—at Midthun.
During the pre-round interview, Maverick took a playful jab back, saying:
“I’m really excited to play against my all-time favorite NFL linebacker Clay Matthews… I mean Brian Urlacher.”
Urlacher, quick on his feet, deflected the joke, turned to caddy Gerry Carry, and grabbed some of his long hair:
“You must be talking about Gerry.”
The banter continued to the first tee, where Urlacher teased Midthun about using a yellow golf ball, joking that it’s "what seniors use to help them see their ball."
The ceremonial tee introductions were done by Arizona sports radio personality Kevin McCabe, and Urlacher wasted no time setting the tone—ripping his opening drive 310 yards down the middle of the fairway.
The tone was set, Urlacher came to play!

Throughout the match, fans were treated to an exciting display of powerful drives, clutch shots, and plenty of entertaining banter between the players. The entire event was captured with high resolution video and on-course microphones, ensuring that every moment of fun, competition, and camaraderie will be relived in the upcoming video release.
The day wrapped up with handshakes, autographs, and photos—a perfect way to celebrate an incredible event. The silent auction, featuring high-end items, closed the next day, bringing the total amount raised to over $5,500.
